Georgia Martin and Shiloh Catori broke out in Toy Machine’s Real Life Sucks last summer. For the cover story of Closer Issue #11, we spoke to the pair about what it means to be in skateboarding’s spotlight today.

Riding shotgun on a California freeway, Georgia Martin will often take out a sandwich and instinctively pass half to her driver, Don Luong without even a sideways glance. “It reminds me of a buddy cop movie,” says Luong, the 37 year-old Toy Machine videographer whose 22 year-old companion, Martin, knows that if he’s drunk enough coffee then he’ll forget to eat whilst chauffeuring the team to spots. Meanwhile, in the back of the van, 16 year-old Shiloh Catori can be found busting the chops of the likes of Leo Romero, Braden Hoban and Dakota Servold, skaters who make a living grinding handrails with higher stair counts than the number of years their fearless and youngest teammate has been on the planet.

Martin and Catori made their big screen debut in Toy Machine’s Real Life Sucks last summer. With a stylish precision to her skating, Martin went pro off the back of a refreshing and punchy part scored by Placebo. Whereas a slow-motion ensemble of roofs, handrails and hubbas set to Ennio Marricone (of Sean Sheffey skating to “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” fame) proved a startling and rewindable introduction to Catori.

I got the pair on a call to talk about moving from your hometown to California, filming for full-length videos, maintaining visibility, exercise, and more of the contemporary realities that come with being young and very good at skateboarding. Or, to frame it through their bloodsucking overlord, the Good and Evil of it all.

In the following highlights from their cover story, the pair discuss filming for their breakout parts in Toy Machine’s Real Life Sucks. Pick up Closer #11 for the full story, available here and at your local skate shop.
