Closer Skateboarding issue 9 featuring Donovon Piscopo on the front cover as well as John Lucero and Lance Mountain on the back.

Brace yourself for a lot of numbers… It’s our first issue of our third volume with Closer Skateboarding Issue 9 and although we just celebrated the two-year milestone, that makes the next installment Issue 10, which might be just cause to throw another little shindig…

Anyhow, our latest volume includes a cover story with Donovon Piscopo on fatherhood and founding his own company out of Covina, California; Anthony Pappalardo (the writer) traces the strange and fascinating story of a sculpture in Boston first seen skated by Donny Barley in Toy Machine’s Welcome To Hell; Norma Ibarra shares her story, wisdom and photography portfolio with Farran Golding; Cole Nowicki chronicles a day in the life of Rick McCrank; and Eric Swisher delivers a special edition of The Chrome Ball Incident delving into the world of team management with Crailtap’s Sam Smyth, Tum Yeto’s Mike Sinclair and Habitat Skateboards’ Brennan Conroy.

Joining those long-form articles is an interview with Benny Hughes of Curb Cuttings (who crafted the Rick Howard cover of Closer #5) plus columns with Clyde Singleton on Black representation, the artist JJ. Horner, Matt Price pays a photographic tribute to Bryce Kanights, and Nick Halkias shares his collection of boards where ’80s rock-and-roll and skateboarding collide.
