Emilio Culian’s Hardbody imprint hard launches itself as a board brand in OD, featuring Antonio Durao, Kevin Tierney, Connor Champion, Josh Velez and many more New York heads.
Hardbody Entertainment presents OD by Emelio Cuilan.
The name Hardbody will ring familiar to the astute fans of New York skating out there. However to call OD their first video is both remiss yet technically true…
For around a decade, the New York-based imprint has been the production house of cinematographer, Emelio Cuilan whose releases include The DANY Video in 2017 and 2021’s The Hardbody Video. The latter features an incredible opener from Antonio Durao, now a minted professional for Hardbody with OD cementing the brand as board outfit.
OD is Durao’s second part of the year released two weeks after his previous one in Nike SB’s QuickStrike. His hallmarks of otherworldly pop, languid style, haphazard one-foots and shutting down NYC’s D7 stair-set are all to be unexpected yet utterly unexpected in how they’re deployed, as is usually the case for Durao’s magic. Before the video gets to Antonio, however, there’s Kevin Tierney manhandling a lipslide-into-stuff renaissance, Supreme heads Connor Champion and Josh Velez sharing a part to Moby’s “New Dawn Fades” cover from Heat (Tom Karangelov‘s favourite heist movie), and appearances from NYC heads as far ranging as Karim Calendar to Dick Rizzo.
Speaking to Quartersnacks, Hardbody’s other marquee pro, Hjalte Halberg explained his surprise move from Polar to the brand as an opportunity for a fresh start. “It was the perfect opportunity to try something else. I’m hyped to build something new. It’s a new adventure. When Emilio [Cuilan] would first come to Copenhagen with Hardbody, it was the same. We’d go out skating, hang out, watch the footage together, discuss the footage together, plan out what to do with it together.” He adds that Durao’s involvement was key to decision too, which you read up on via the full interview, ‘Skateboarding Is Like A Dance’ over at QS.
